Cavachon dogs: are a Designer Hybrid. They are from the Cavalier King Charles and Bichon Frise. The first generation breeding of any two pure breed dogs of different breeds is called a F1. Using Hybrids in breeding is mostly unpredictable as to the appearance and temperament of the puppies. Sukeykennel uses only AKC Cavalier King Charles and AKC Bichon Frises. All our Hybrid puppies are first generation or F1.
Genetics: First generation hybrids are all exactly 50% of each parent breed. Half their chromosomes from one parent, half from the other parent.
Temperament: Both the Cavalier King Charles and the Bichon Frise are great companion dogs. They are intelligent and fast learners. As with any breed some individual dogs are smarter than others, but overall the Cavachon is very intelligent. Cavachons are not yappers that bark for no apparent reason. They will however announce when strangers arrive then return to their settled state.
Cavachons are not aggressive. They are easy going, and non territorial. They do well with children and people of all ages, plus make excellent companions for other pets. The Cavachons are gentle and very affectionate
Coat: Texture: The first-generation cross should get half their genes from each parents, so their coats will be a combination of the two fur types.
Size: Cavachons are considered a small to medium sized breed and come in a wide range of sizes.. The average size being between 10/18 lbs. Depending on the parents size. Sukeykennels Cavachons are on the small side. Our sires and Dams are small for their breeds . Sukeykennels Cavachons should be in the 10/15 lb range.
Life Expectancy: F1 or first generation Cavachon life span should be 12-18 years
If you are not sure whether to adopt a male or a female. We believe the sex of a puppy should not be an issue in your selection because, when spayed or neutered early, both male and female make equally great home companions. Temperamentally, males and females are both very loving and loyal. At Sukey's we believe in the saying Females love you, but males are in love with you.
Heterosis is the phenomenon where crossing two inbred lines can produce descendants with superior genetic foundation. This increased health and vigor does not create a superior breed, but the advantages obtained from it are what produce hybrid vigor. This goal in this scenario is to create a happy and healthy pet.
Heterosis effect results in a healthier, more vigorous dog with a reduced chance of genetic disease. It is well known in all domestic animal breeding's, hybrids 50%-50% mixes of two different breeds will raise the chances of having less genetic diseases because all doubling of detrimental effects will stop in the first generation. The genetic term for this is HETEROSIS EFFECT. This effect often gives non-related individuals stronger descendants than inbreeds
